J-Vist
Voice Input/Output in Windows Vista for Jaws Users

Allowing users of the JAWS for Windows Screen-Reader to talk to the computer using Windows Vista Speech Recognition
J-Vist is a new exciting product enabling users of the JAWS for Windows screen-reader from Freedom Scientific to make use of the Windows Vista speech recognition component (Windows VSR).
Whilst this new tool does not in any way replace our J-Say voice input/output product, it does allow JAWS For Windows users who are highly keyboard able to have speech input at their disposal for the purposes of text creation in popular Microsoft applications.
J-Vist Features:
- Interact with the Windows Vista Speech Input Tool to independently create a Speech Profile.
- Hear audible confirmation via a Windows Sound of the microphone turning on/off, and receive JAWS based confirmation information of the microphone condition via a keystroke.
- Hear JAWS echo-back of text dictation following the dictation of each phrase or when a punctuation mark is dictated.
- When the vista Correction system needs to be accessed to resolve recognition errors, J-Vist allows a user to use key sequences with which they are already familiar to examine its contents.
- When a word or phrase is dictated into the Windows VSR "Spell Box," J-Vist will echo back the letters dictated and allow them to be instantly viewed on a Braille display.
- J-Vist provides the user with the ability to place details such as the initial training text and help within the JAWS Virtual Viewer facilitating easy analysis through the press of a keystroke.
- J-Vist offers Context Sensitive Help throughout all components of the interface through its "Tutorial Mode." This mode gives immediate and interactive assistance when working within Windows VSR environments including the "Speech Dictionary," being the equivalent of a teaching aid when a user is becoming used to the interface.
- Special adaptations have been made to the Windows VSR "Speech Dictionary" to make it a pleasure to use.
- Windows VSR sounds, triggered by events in the system, can be learned outside of the dictation environment within the J-Vist help system.
- Finally manuals are available in a variety of formats.
J-Vist interacts with the following computing applications:
- Microsoft Word, from Office 2007;
- Microsoft Outlook, from Office 2007;
- Windows Mail, from the Windows Vista operating system;
- Wordpad, from the Windows Vista operating system.
