SynaMed
SynaMed is the complete answer to all your medical record-keeping needs. Its fully-integrated system lets you instantaneously track, control, record and share each patient's medical information-through every phase of their care-all in real time on the Web. This unique EMR system bridges the communication gap that often exists between primary care physicians and the entire "task force" of specialists, consultants and laboratory/radiology personnel that share in a patient's care.
Multi-office / Multi-doctor Patient Scheduling:
The SynaMed system provides healthcare providers with access to patient scheduling from multiple locations-whether at your second office, at home, or on call-all are integrated into the EMR system. Each physician within a group or individual practice has their own calendar.
Each physician within a practice can easily customize the time interval of patient appointments - which reflect the office hours of the individual physician. Simply select your calendar preferences to accommodate.
Staff can view multiple physician calendars and schedule/view appointments for multiple locations.
Prescription & Note Printouts with Digital Signature:
Prescriptions and office notes are created in PDF format. You can also review your patient notes on screen before printing it out. With digital signature, prescriptions can be faxed directly to the pharmacies.
Customizable Templates:
SynaMed provides specialists with maximum flexibility in the creation of customizable templates.
In addition to the base library of templates, you can create your own customized templates for subjective notes and procedures.

Specialist procedures such as nuclear stress tests or vascular surgery can easily be created to specifically meet the needs of your specialty practice.

In addition to creating custom templates you have the freedom to update, delete, and manage your templates. Custom templates can be shared with other practitioners to implement procedural uniformity.
You can also review your patient notes on screen before printing it out in PDF format. The offline-access feature allows automatic downloading of patient notes and procedures to a local computer, allowing for access to patient information in the event of internet access failure.
Imaging:
You can upload images to the images repository of individual patients. Each image is identified by date and description and can be associated with a patient record, lab test or a procedure.
Messaging / Referrals:
SynaMed's messaging is a secure and closed system to allow communication between the users of the group or between groups. It also allows you to attach any images or documents to your messages. You can also send referrals to any physician within or outside of your group practice.
E & M Coding:
The cpt code is automatically calculated and is suggested based on service provider's documentation of every phase of the patient's visit.
SynaMed's E/M Coder is a great tool to accurately determine the level of service and reduce the risk of financial penalties that may result from over-coding.
Audit Trail
Hipaa compliant functionality that keeps a log of all actions performed by users of the group. All actions are stamped with time and date along with action description so you are able to see who entered or modified data at what time.
Popup Auto-Alerts
The program automatically alerts the user for any drug-drug interactions, drug allergies or contraindications.
Artificial Intelligence:
SynaMed offers healthcare providers with an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system option that can expedite diagnosis selection.
The AI is not a replacement for independent medical investigation, and is not intended as a "Virtual Doctor," but it can serve as a time-saving tool in expediting the selection of diagnoses.
Our ASP Model:
The Web is the key to SynaMed's unique system of connecting doctors to each other. As millions of Americans have already learned, the internet is an extraordinary tool for bringing people -- and information -- together.
It's already revolutionized everything from banking to air transportation.
But doctors have never been able to take full advantage of this technology... until now.
Here's how: By harnessing the enormous power of the Web, SynaMed provides total access to medical records -- regardless of a doctor's location. So whether you're at a second office, the hospital, at home, or on call, all you need is a Mac-or Windows-based computer with a Web browser like Internet Explorer.
The internet offers several key advantages. For example, the unique EMR system bridges the communications gap that often exists between primary care physicians and the entire "task force" of specialists, consultants and laboratory/radiology personnel that share patient information.
In addition, the Web-based model allows users to make "instant" updates. So primary doctors can go online to retrieve patient records and test results that can be shared with referring physicians -- instantaneously! SynaMed also introduces another advantage: at hospitals where software installations aren't allowed, SynaMed can easily be accessed via the Web without any installation headaches.
And there's more. The internet also facilitates other procedures like transcription and imaging. With real-time transcription, turnaround time is drastically reduced by allowing the transcriptionist to "log in" to reports they need to transcribe. Then, as soon as transcriptionists finish the job, doctors will receive status updates from SynaMed -- automatically. So the process is not only seamless but faster too.
Transcribed material will also be embedded in the appropriate part of the chart, awaiting the doctor's review. The net result? The transcription cost is reduced and the medical record is now in a fully-searchable database. Like transcription, imaging is facilitated as well: uploads will accommodate numerous paper documents, including EKGs, consultations, x-rays and DICOM images.
Security:
Synamed has the most comprehensive security coverage available.
Where applicable, SynaMed complies with HIPAA guidelines on handling patient information. Additionally, SynaMed utilizes the latest technological advances in security protocols and encryption techniques to prevent unauthorized access to patient information. The security measures exist on architectural, software, and procedural tiers; all of which combine to provide an unprecedented level of data protection.
On the architectural tier, SynaMed uses industry standards to prevent access, interception, or misrepresentation of information stored at SynaMed's data center. Network infrastructure and hardware components limit access by intruders and ensure the web traffic integrity.
On the software tier, security measures relating to software development and third party software usage ensure multiple layers of redundancy to authenticate users, obfuscate patient identifying information, and, even in the unlikely scenario where the data center security has been breached, render unreadable any patient identifying information.
On the procedural tier, role-based access restrict users by privileges and access rights. Additionally, allowed user and administrator actions follow set guidelines so as to mitigate opportunities for malfeasance. The three tiers are listed below.
Architectural Security Tier
- 128 bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is used to connect between the client browser and SynaMed. SynaMed has a digital certificate with VeriSign to ensure server identity.
- Internal SynaMed firewall prevents unauthorized connections to and from the SynaMed web application server.
- Servers, databases, backup devices, and application files are located on multiple machines, and routed through a firewall.
- Additionally, our datacenters feature:
- Regular security auditing
- Performance auditing
- Configuration auditing
- 24/7 system monitoring
Software Security Tier
- RSA asymmetric public/private key encryption is used to cipher patient identifying information on the database.
- RSA digital signature is used to ensure integrity and non-repudiation of certain data when a physician "signs off" on a patient's chart.
- Alarms immediately lock-out user access and alert SynaMed administrators of robot or other unauthorized agents attempting access. Measures are made to track and identify such agents.
- The session is automatically timed out when there is no activity during a specific length of time.
An audit trail records server actions and user activity.
Procedural Security Tier
- User access is limited to the scope of privileges set by an
administrator. Group Administrators control the scope of privileges
of physicians and physicians limit the scope of privileges of
staff. This hierarchical privilege system allows for maximum
flexibility and control over how the application is used by
practice members. The administrator has rights to :
- limit access by IP address
- disable the application during off-hours
- disable user accounts
- reset passwords
- enable specific computer workstations to access group accounts
- configure the web application timeout setting
- Permissions are action and user specific, allowing for fine-graind control over application usage. You can limit the read, write, and modify rights to patient notes, templates, and procedures.
- Initial passwords are assigned by the group administrator and users then change to their own private password. Passwords are required to change periodically.
- The proprietary SynaMed web application software code is not distributed.
- Emails (where available) are only allowed within the SynaMed web application network. Emails outside of the local server is not permitted. The messaging system is localized and does not traverse the Internet.
- SynaMed has a full technical staff dedicated to maintaining a safe and smooth running application. Latest updates/patches are applied to counter known breaches in server software.
- Each computer must first be "unlocked" by a group administrator before allowing users to login to SynaMed with a valid username and password.
- In addition to the security precautions mentioned above, other proprietary security measures are taken to prevent unauthorized access wherever possible.
