Scansoft Open License Program Update
In last month's newsletter I mentioned the new ScanSoft Open License Program (OLP). Each product has a point value, and it takes fewer initial license purchases in order to get volume discounting. Some of the software minimums are as follows:
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 8
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 4
- OmniPage Pro 4
- PaperPort 8
That means that we can now work on a volume licensing schedule with the purchase of numeral for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional licenses. Please feel free to contact us by telephone or e-mail if you need more information about this.
Michael Bjork, New Operations Supervisor
After four years of exceptional service with Next Generation Technologies, Inc. our Consultant Michael Bjork has been named Operations Supervisor. In his new role Michael will be responsible for Quality Assurance (QA) of daily operations, and will provide additional supervision of our technical support services. Michael can be reached at our main office at 425-744-1100 extension 16 or e-mail him.
Motion's View Anywhere and Medical Pak
Motion Computing (San Antonio, Texas) announced the upcoming release of its View Anywhere display technology. This patented technology reportedly allows viewing the tablet PC screen in any light, including direct sunlight. Once we have had the opportunity to test this new technology we will report not only on its capabilities, but also on its net effect on battery life. (Currently, tablet computers using Centrino processors can run for four hours or longer on a single battery charge.). We have expanded our web pages to include information about this View Anywhere technology and the new Medical Pak for the Motion Tablet PC.
Sager-Midern Introduces Centrino Based 3750
Sager-Midern Computers (City of Industry, California) recently introduced its new model 3750. Using the latest Centrino technology this model includes a built-in wireless (802.11b), 40cm WXGA display, 1 GB of on-die Cache (Wow!), built in video camera, and four speakers with a subwoofer. With an expected fully configured price point under $2000 for we expect this particular model to make an excellent platform for speech input/voice output technologies. Having just received our first 3750 on a client order we can report the fit and finish of this device to be excellent (in keeping with past history).
MagniTalk v. 8.1
NGT, Inc. is ready to release MagniTalk version 8.1 with its new auto installing utility. After conducting market research NGT selected the new "Setup Factory" utility from Indigo Rose Software Design Corp. With a broad range of development tools the new installer automatically installs the appropriate data to a computer system running Dragon NaturallySpeaking Pro v. 7.x and ZoomText v. 8.x. In answer to a recent question from one of our clients, it is possible to install MagniTalk to an existing Dragon NaturallySpeaking user profile while retaining all of the existing custom commands and vocabulary created by the user prior to the MagniTalk installation.
Dragon NS Mailing List
For many years we've been discussing having a listserv specifically to support Dragon NaturallySpeaking and its use by people with disabilities. It's with great pleasure that I can announce that the University of Washington will graciously host our "NatSpeak" mailing list. It is our hope that this listserv will serve as a significant resource for people using Dragon NaturallySpeaking technology as an assistive technology. This is not intended to be a commercial venture, and I expect any 'vendors' to clearly disclose any commercial interest that they might have in either the NaturallySpeaking technology or related technologies that will arise. However, I'm very optimistic that with so many good people on this list, it will provide a community of like-minded helping individuals--together we can solve a lot of problems and help a lot of people. To subscribe, read these instructions. We will try to monitor this list on an ongoing basis.
