View Anywhere Technology

As many of you are aware, we have been working with Motion Computing Company for the last several years representing their best-of-breed slate tablet PCs. There are many innovations in Motion Computing sleek tablets and we thought it would be helpful to share information about their patented View Anywhere technology.

Basically, View Anywhere allows the tablet PC user to view their computer display in many ambient light environments that typically would be problematical for laptop and other portable computer devices. View Anywhere allows viewing the tablet PC display in direct sunlight and in very bright overhead lighting situations. For many of us that we want the freedom of using our portable technology anywhere and are frustrated to find that we can't view the device in our favorite place (i.e., on the deck or patio or on the beach), View Anywhere is very helpful. Many people practicing in the health-care fields find that bright overhead lighting of exam rooms and similar environments can wash out the display to the point where reading information is impractical.

When I ordered my latest Motion LE1600 I ordered one with the View Anywhere technology and have found that this display option is "the real deal." We recommend it as one option to consider when configuring their Motion Tablet PCs.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking's Show Dictation Box Command

It has been our good fortune to provide on-site training and education services for many of our clients that purchase Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical version 8.1. However, we are aware that there are many physicians and health care providers that receive our monthly, or somewhat monthly, e-mail newsletter whom we've not had the chance to work with them directly.

Since we've done a number of integrations of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) applications--including Logician, Ibex, EPIC, AllMeds, ChartConnect and others-- we wanted to make sure for those that use NaturallySpeaking Medical that you're familiar with the "show dictation box" command. This command is especially useful when working with applications that may not fully support the functionality of the NaturallySpeaking user-interface.

The "show dictation box" command deploys a fully voice enabled window with okay, cancel, and help buttons. After invoking the window, one can dictate easily into a fully supported dictation window and, at the conclusion of dictation, all text from the dictation box is automatically injected into the target application. This is something Dragon NS users should think about.

NGT VoicePro Mid-tower Changes

NGT has started a second motherboard/processor design configuration for NGT VoicePro Mid-tower systems. Previously, we had standardized to the Intel Pentium 4 3/3.2 hyper-threading processor installed on an MSI motherboard and supporting 2 MB of L2 cache and 667 MHz of front side bus. With the introduction of Intel's dual core (Called "Duo Core" by Intel.) processor technology, we have started building and configuring with this processor coupled with a new MSI motherboard supporting up to 4 MB of onboard cache and 800 MHz front side bus. We have already introduced this processor in the NGT medical dictation station.

Though we've not yet started putting J-Say technology on this platform we do anticipate transitioning as prices of this processor motherboard combination come down. It is also relevant to note that with the anticipated introduction of Windows Vista, we anticipate all of the new component configurations to support the new operating system.

VXI Bluetooth Microphones

Many of you know that the VXI Talk Pro Express and Talk Pro Max are among our favorite input microphones when coupled with a digital converter. Recently, VXI introduced two new Bluetooth microphones for use with speech recognition and VoIP technologies. The two models are the B150 GTX and B1000 GTX. The 150 is for computers that are Bluetooth enabled, and the B1000 is for devices that are not currently Bluetooth enabled and includes a broadcast base station that connects to the PC via USB.

In our early tests I've found that the 150 performed admirably. and while not, in my opinion, as accurate as using the VXI Talk Pro Express with Andrea digital USB wired solution, it does offer options for people that want to go with wireless Bluetooth access.

Olympus DS 2300 Digital Recorder

For the last several years, as an authorized Olympus dealer, NGT has been working with Olympus digital recording technology. We have prime early work with the Olympus DS 330 and DS 4000. Recently, the DS 330 was discontinued and it was replaced by a model called the DS 2300. The 2300 is much more in the mold of the 4000 (i.e. professional equipment) and offers a removable memory chip. That means that it will hold up to 199 files which can be saved in each of the five folders. With the use of removable xD-Picture Cards, this means that the voice recorder has virtually unlimited storage capacity.

J-Say Standard Announcement

T&T Consultancy (Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom) has announced that J-Say Standard 4 will be the final released version of the Standard line in the J-Say family of products. This change was not made lightly, and is due in part to market forces. In order to ease the transition for our J-Say Standard users to the current version of J-Say Pro special pricing has been announced for both J-Say Professional upgrades from Standard and Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional upgrades from Preferred.

Users wishing to migrate from J-Say Standard 4 to J-Say Professional 3,both of which support Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 8 and 8.1 and JAWS for Windows 7, have a special offering price of $172.50 which is available from your local distributors or NGT, Inc. If one needs to upgrade the Dragon software from Preferred to Professional, NGT is offering a special price of $576.50 for this $595.00 list product.
