WYNN = What You Need Now
Industry-leading Software for LD/Special Ed Announcement
Next Generation Technologies, Inc. recently concluded a distribution and support agreement with Freedom Scientific, Inc. to distribute their industry-leading What You Need Now (WYNN) software. Here's some basic information about our new software:
"WYNN was designed with the guidance of students and adults with Specific Learning Disability and special educators. WYNN is also helpful for people who do not have a diagnosed reading disability, but find reading difficult, unpleasant, or laborious. And WYNN is a valuable tool for teachers and therapists who work with individuals with reading difficulties. Used with a standard PC, WYNN lets you open a file and hear it read aloud or, scan in a page using a flatbed scanner, and read that aloud. Once you open a page, you can edit it by adding text or making corrections. And, you can alter the way the page is presented on the screen as well as the way it is read aloud to you. To help you study, you can insert notes and bookmarks, highlight sections, or look up words in the dictionary."
With so many other functional benefits we welcome product inquiries from educators working with special-needs children and adults as well as ADA Coordinators. We should have additional information posted to our website shortly.

In keeping with our commitment to an accessible corporate Web presence, we've recently added expanded keystroke support and access to our site. Our intention is to make navigating our sites menus and content easier when using the keyboard for access. We now have a page explaining how keyboard access works and additional information about how Pace Arko (Our webmaster.) is improving the accessibility of our site.
Say I Can Dragon NaturallySpeaking Pro Version 6.0 Training CDs
The folks at Say I Can Inc. have been working with Dragon NaturallySpeaking technology for many years. They've recently released a three CD-ROMs set which provides basic support and usage information for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred in Professional software users. I've posted additional information that describes this program and some of its considerable advantages. The early feedback on this support material has been quite good. We had a number of educators purchase the Dragon NaturallySpeaking training software and comment that it helped them train their students better. At a list price of $99.95, and with an educational discount available, we hope that more clients will have the opportunity to take advantage of this excellent software.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional v6.0 Service Release 1 (SR1)
ScanSoft has released a downloadable "patch" for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional version 6.0. This patch has several primary fixes including: improper spacing in Microsoft Word/WordPerfect, decreased voice file accuracy after running the Acoustic Optimizer, loss of specialized commands in Microsoft Outlook, caps lock on/off problems, and several others. You can go to the Dragon support web site and look for the entry under June 18 recording improper spacing of words to access the downloadable patch.
IREAD Notes Pro Addresses ADA Issues
When we agreed to be the exclusive North American distributor for Charactell's iREAD Notes Pro handwriting conversion technologies, we had anticipated this being a revolutionary tool for corporate executives and road warriors. A number of our clients recently brought another significant application to our attention--for many blind/low vision and deaf students taking notes were accessing notes from meetings can be difficult. With the iREAD Notes Pro handwriting conversion software, another student or co-worker attending the class or meeting can take notes and then have those notes easily converted into a PC format for reading by voice output or other means. We've extended the special price of $149.95 (List Price: $249.95) on iREAD Notes Pro through the end of August.
NGT VoicePro Mobile Computers
Our long-term clients know that Next Generation Technologies, Inc. has been custom configuring Sager-Midern notebook computer systems to support speech input/voice output (and related technology) solutions since 1993. The good folks in the City of Industry, California have recently released for new Pentium 4 based computer systems. We've been fortunate enough to work with three of the four already and should be completing our test run on the fourth shortly.
Perhaps one of the best comments is that these four models cover a broad spectrum of available Pentium 4 based notebook computer configurations. I've recently started working with their 6120 which is a terrific "plain vanilla" system with all the power and functionality that any road warrior will require (this unit has a built-in CD-RW and hot swappable USB floppy drive). My unit has a Pentium 4 2.2 GHz processor with 512 K. Cache, 512 MB of 266 DDR RAM, and a 64 MB share memory video system. This device uses an AVANCE 67 sound chip, which seems to be handling the NaturallySpeaking speech input task admirably.
The other models include expanded multimedia support for people fond of importing and exporting MP3 files, listening to CDs or watching DVDs, and many others. The 8880 has a full-sized 104 key keyboard, a number pad, and a huge 15.7" SXGA display.
