ScanSoft Open License Program

Scansoft recently announced an update to its Open License Program (OLP) for all Scansoft software products. The OLP is a flexible and cost-efficient way for organizations of any size to procure Scansoft software. It offers 5 discount levels based on points, and allows for subsequent purchases to be made in smaller quantities for the same discount over the next two years. With Dragon NaturallySpeaking, OmniPage Pro, PDF Converter and so many other terrific software technologies available we'll be pleased to provide additional information upon request.

Scansoft OmniPage Pro 14

Speaking of Scansoft, they've just released the upgraded OmniPage Pro 14 OCR product. The new OmniPage offers precision OCR technology, advanced layout analysis and powerful editing capabilities to allow business professionals to quickly and cost effectively turn office documents into over 30 different PC application file formats for editing, searching and sharing with a single application. Since this product includes Scansoft's award winning RealSpeak 2.0 TTS it can "read out loud" any scanned materials without the need for additional software (and with a List Price of $599.00 this can be a less expensive alternative for some assistive technology users.)

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7.3 Service Release

Scansoft recently released service patch 7.3 for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional and Preferred. Available as a free download from ScanSoft, this service release is particularly valuable as it provides improved support for MS Office 2003 and a number of reported bug fixes.

Remember, it's always a good idea to do a complete back up prior to downloading a patch of this type; particularly important to backup your DNS User profiles.

CSUN 2004 Update

Many of our regular readers are aware that we generally attend the California State University at Northridge (CSUN) conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities conference in Los Angeles each March. This year, Ed. Rosenthal, President and CEO will be presenting a one hour lecture from 2:50 to 3:50 PM on Wednesday March 17 entitled "Scripting for Dragon NaturallySpeaking." This introductory presentation is intended to provide an overview of the scripting tools available in DNS 7.0 Professional, and provide a number of specific scripting examples. In addition, Ed. plans to be in LA Monday through Thursday (15th- 18th), and individual meetings can be scheduled by sending mail to Edward Rosenthal.

ATIA 2004 Update

The Assistive Technology Industry Association held it's annual conference in Orlando, Fla. the week of January 12th, and as mentioned in our last newsletter NGT hosted a booth and President Ed. Rosenthal conducted a well attended presentation entitled "Real World Speech Recognition Technology". This was our first time attending this conference and the feedback we received was most gratifying. In ffaddition, we had a chance to meet some of our favorite clients, and discuss future developments in assistive technology.

MagniTalk 70.804

Developer Michael Bjork has completed the update of MagniTalk 70.804 to support all versions of Dragon NS Professional v. 7.0/7.2/7.3 and all versions of ZoomText V. 8.01/8.02/8.04. We're very excited about this new product, and have been receiving both positive feedback and good future design comments from our clients.

Motion Tablet PCs

The good people at Motion Computing continue to lead the way in Tablet PC innovation. Upcoming developments include faster Centrino processors, and a patented viewing technology that will allow users to use their Table in direct sunlight. We've just started working with the handwriting capture features of the new M1300, and are impressed with it's overall accuracy. Of course, we have Dragon NaturallySpeaking running well on the Centrino based Tablet, and anticipate integrating the Medamation EMR packages with speech input and handwriting capture on these devices.

WYNN 3.5 Released

One of the world's best literacy support software products just got better. Freedom Scientific has just released WYNN 3.5. Some of the new features include: RealSpeak TTS from Scansoft (as well as IBM ViaVoice); high speed scanner support; new FineReader OCR enging; new custom settings for individual users; the ability to have up to 3 documents open at the same time. We've been really pleased with WYNN technology to date, and would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Once again, thanks for your continued support!
